The Guardian revealed that BAFTA was made aware of several allegations thirteen days before awarding Clarke, but reported that the organization said it was not provided with any evidence that would allow it to investigate. The Academy’s decision to publicly revere the actor pushed several women to speak out against Clarke.

Bafta has admitted that it honoured Noel Clarke, the actor and film-maker, with an outstanding contribution award despite receiving multiple allegations that he had abused and sexually harassed women.
The organisation on Thursday night suspended Clarke’s award and membership of Bafta after the allegations were made public.
The actor, currently starring in the ITV drama Viewpoint, received the award for Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema at the ceremony last month. He denies the allegations.
