Mattoon, IL -(Effingham Radio)- Lake Land College held a virtual Student Recognition Event via Zoom April 28 to recognize several students for their achievements in the classroom and beyond. Interim Director of Student Life Dave Seiler hosted the event with faculty and staff offering praise for the outstanding student leaders.
Lake Land College President Josh Bullock began the event with a few words of congratulations and appreciation to the students.
“The strength in Lake Land College truly lies in our students,” Bullock said in his remarks. “It lies in the quality and commitment of our students to their educational journey and their learning process.”

Local nonprofits receive contributions from Youth Philanthropy in Action middle school students
The Community Foundation for Ocala/Marion County and NonProfit Business Council awarded $2,500 as part of the Youth Philanthropy in Action program, according to a press release from the foundation.
In spring 2021, Belleview Middle School and Osceola Middle School participated in YPIA. Osceola did so in spring 2020, as well, but COVID-19 abruptly altered the program delivery.
Zerphey SRV Abbadusky Outstanding Student for April

LONDON MILLS Jacob Zerphey, Maquon, earned the Amos Abbadusky Outstanding Student Award for the month of April at Spoon River Valley High School.
This award is based on citizenship, scholarship, attendance as well as service and participation.
Further, the prestigious award is based upon faculty input.
Zerphey is a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council and Academic Challenge.
Additionally, he has earned high honors.
Zerphey is the son of Gerald and Dawn Zerphey.

University of the Ozarks administrators and faculty presented the University’s top academic and division awards during the 64
th annual Honors Day ceremony, held Wednesday afternoon via Zoom.
Petron Brown, a theatre and environmental studies major from Nassau, The Bahamas, was the recipient of the 2021 Wiley Lin Hurie Memorial Award, presented to the outstanding senior in the graduating class as voted on by the faculty. The Hurie Award is named in honor of the long-time president of the University and is the highest honor given to an Ozarks student. Brown was also named the Outstanding Student in Theatre.

VALDOSTA, Ga. â Daniela Reyes Escalona of Moultrie, Georgia, is the recipient of the 2021 Annie Powe Hopper Award and the Outstanding Student in Business Award at Valdosta State University. Winning these awards has been my biggest pride during my VSU experience, she said. I was beyond thrilled to share the news with my family, friends, and professors and grateful I had the opportunity to make them proud. These awards are very meaningful to me because they give me the opportunity to represent my family and friends, as well as the Latin community here at VSU.
