At least four suspects have been arrested in connection with banditry, cattle rustling, kidnapping and armed robbery by the police in Katsina State.
The suspects, according to police authorities in the state, belonged to a notorious syndicate terrorising Kankara Local Government Area of the state and its environs.
In a press briefing held on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Gambo Isah said the suspects were arrested based on credible intelligence on May 10
th.
Isah said in the process of smashing the suspects, the police recovered of 170 cows and 38 sheep in their possession.
“Nemesis caught up with one Isiya Halliru, Nasiru Bature, Bello Hamza, all of Fanteka village in Musawa Local Government Area of the state as well as one Hassan Iliyasu of Masaurari village in Kankara Local Government Area,” he said.

The district head of Kankara, Yusuf Lawal, has been suspended by the Katsina Emirate Council for allegedly sponsoring the activities of bandits in the region.
The suspension followed widespread insecurity in Kankara, Katsina State, which is also President Muhammadu Buhari’s home state.
In a statement on Sunday, Katsina Emirate’s secretary, Iro Bindawa said Lawal’s immediate suspension followed residents’ complaints of his villainous activities.

Auwalun Daudawa, the leader of the gang of bandits that abducted over 300 schoolboys in the Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State who surrendered some weapons and ‘repented’ in February picked up arms again because he was not satisfied with what he was offered, a source has told SaharaReporters.
Daily Trust had on Thursday reported that Daudawa from Gidan Jaja had gone back to the forest less than three months after his celebrated repentance.
“DPO Kankara led Operation Puff Adder and vigilante group to their possible exit route.
“Fortunately, the bandits passed through the police ambushed point and the team engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel, killed one of the bandits and rescued the victim,” he said. He said that the body of the gunned down bandit and a motorcycle were recovered, while many bandits escaped with gunshot wounds. In a related development, on April 22, at about 23:40 hours, another distress call was received that bandits numbering 15, armed with AK 47 rifles, attacked Abadau village, Batsari Local Government Area of the state and rustled animals.
