Seattle Public Schools informed hundreds of teachers and other school staff that they may be among those called back to buildings beginning March 8 to teach in-person classes.
This is before the district reaches a reopening agreement with Seattle Education Association.
In a controversial move, the School Board voted Thursday to classify staff members who serve some of the highest-needs students with disabilities, as well as those in the districtâs preschool and Head Start programs, as essential.
He said several staff members are following COVID-19 precautionary measures and self-isolating. “This makes it difficult to function operationally,” he said. A COVID-19 exposure was reported at the school Jan. 6-8. The school issued an update last Wednesday noting that “two or more members” of the school had tested positive for COVID-19. A Saturday notice reported further cases. On Sunday, Island Health informed the school that more people had tested positive in what’s now being called a cluster of cases. Dr. Richard Stanwick, chief medical health officer for Island Health, said the health authority did not ask the school to close.
VICTORIA Island Health has issued a COVID-19 exposure notice along a school bus route in the Mid-Island. The health authority says that a single person who has tested positive for the virus was onboard the Miracle Beach Elementary School bus route from Jan. 4 to 8. Anyone who may have been a close contact of the individual will be contacted by Island Health. “If you do not receive a phone call or letter from public health, your child should continue to attend school,” reads the health authority’s website on possible school exposures. Miracle Beach Elementary School is located at 8763 Paulsen Rd. in Black Creek. As of Wednesday, it is one of seven schools across Vancouver Island that is currently listed on Island Health’s school COVID-19 exposure list.
