Professional lacrosse leagues PLL and MLL are merging

Professional lacrosse leagues PLL and MLL are merging December 17, 2020 GMT LOS ANGELES (AP) The Premier Lacrosse League and Major League Lacrosse are merging and will formally exist as the Premier Lacrosse League. It’s another step forward for PLL co-founder Paul Rabil, who had been seeking to unify and figures the disruption caused by COVID-19 was good in hindsight. “When we got back to the table for conversations this offseason, it just felt more likely that a merger could get done,” Rabil said Wednesday. “I think overall for lacrosse, unifying this could be akin to basketball and football, historically,” As part of the merger, the PLL announced it will immediately expand to include the Boston Cannons, previously of MLL, as the league’s eighth team, under the new name Cannons Lacrosse Club. The team’s roster will be selected through an expansion draft in 2021.

Army vs Navy: Midshipmen uniforms pay tribute to the Yard

It’s that other most wonderful time of the year when the Navy Midshipmen face off against their archrival Army Black Knights in the annual gridiron contest that has come to be known as America’s Game. Being 2020, COVID-19 is also a “player” this year, forcing the game to move from its traditional neutral Philadelphia venue to West Point’s Michie Stadium in New York. Over the 120 years the rivals have competed, about three-quarters of those games were played in Philadelphia, which is roughly equidistant between West Point and Annapolis. However, due to attendance limits placed on outdoor events in the state of Pennsylvania that would not allow the entire Brigade of Midshipmen or Corps of Cadets to attend, the game was relocated to federal government property, which is not subject to state or local restrictions.

This year s Army-Navy game will feature something radically different: A home field

(Mike Lawrie/Getty Images) The 121st Army-Navy game will be played Saturday afternoon, but it won’t look or feel the way Army-Navy is supposed to look or feel. The coronavirus strikes again. Still, Army and Navy will play. They won’t play in Philadelphia, where 89 of the 120 previous games have taken place and the original location of this year’s game. There won’t be the normal crowd of 70,000 in attendance, with traffic jams four hours before kickoff so fans can get into the stadium to watch the Corps of Cadets and the Brigade of Midshipmen march onto the field.
