Bob Conway never met a stranger. In his 74 years, he made countless friends across the globe. He never forgot any of them or their stories.
Born Robert Eugene Conway, in Newport, he was the son of the late Eugene R. Conway and Rita (Charland) Conway. As an infant, he lived on the Newport Naval Base where his father was stationed, and moved to Cumberland with his parents as a young child. Bob lived within the same half mile of Cumberland Hill for most of his life until his passing on May 5. From this small corner of the world, Bob lived a big, adventurous life.

According to 9th ESB’s operations officer, Major Brian Kujawski, the 2019 planning guidance and re-emphasis on naval integration concepts from 38th Commandant of the Marine Corps, General David Berger, were a key focus of the exercise.

Construction Mechanic Constructionman Gen Sun, assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 4, was swept out to sea and later found unresponsive by Tinian Search and Rescue. He was declared dead at Tinian Health Center, according to the Navy. Sun joined the Navy in 2019 and originally was from Maryland, the service said. “Gen quickly gained the friendship of those around him, and had a reputation as an extraordinary sailor,” Cmdr. Troy Brown, commanding officer of NMCB 4, said in a Navy news release. “He made us a better team and we are very fortunate to have had him as part of our family. He will be sorely missed.”
