Inmarsat has completed its 10,000th Fleet Xpress ship installation. Simultaneously the company has launched a new âFleet Data Academyâ with existing partners, shipowners and operators to support the full understanding and adoption of the rapidly growing range of digital applications that are making the maritime industry safer, greener and more efficient.
Fleet Xpress clients now include the worldâs leading container ship and tanker owners, such as MOL, K-Line and Hapag-Lloyd, offshore support giants like Bourbon, Tidewater and Maersk Supply, as well as growing numbers of yachts, passenger ships and fishing boats. Strong customer growth has seen Inmarsat report average daily download rates per vessel of around 8GB as of December 2020. This compares to less than 4 GB at the mid-year point of 2020.

FrontM Signs Up As New Inmarsat Fleet Connect Dedicated Bandwidth Application Provider
FrontM and Inmarsat, the world leader in global, mobile satellite communications, have signed an agreement for FrontM to join the fast-growing group of certified application providers to offer a dedicated application for Inmarsat’s Fleet Connect service.
This collaboration will enable FrontM to use Fleet Connect over Fleet Xpress to deliver their maritime video streaming based collaboration and workflow automation applications to vessels.
Fleet Connect is a dedicated bandwidth service that provides connectivity independent of the ship owners’ primary bandwidth, allowing Application Providers to have an always-on, or on-demand, two-way communication channel to the vessel.
Inflight entertainment and connectivity giant Panasonic Avionics is pulling out of the maritime, energy and enterprise satellite communications business. Less than six years after acquiring ITC Global, the Lake Forest, California-based firm today announced it is selling 100% of the unit to Marlink Group, which is backed by private equity firm Apax Partners (France).
The move is part of Panasonic Avionics’ “long-term strategy” to focus on supporting the aviation market rather than diversifying across sector verticals, a Panasonic Avionics spokesman tells Runway Girl Network.
