Rear Adm. Wesley McCall has come back to Jacksonville after previously commanding Naval Station Mayport a few years ago.
But now with three decades in the U.S. Navy, he is the new head of the Navy Region Southeast s 16 installations in 12 states and Cuba, including Naval Air Station Jacksonville where he will be based.
Taking the reins from retiring Rear Adm. Gary Mayes as the 42nd region commander, McCall thanked his predecessor for his leadership at Thursday s ceremony at NAS Jacksonville. Saying Mayes made a difference, McCall said he is proud to take over command and be able to do it in Jacksonville.

BAE Systems has completed the planned maintenance period of the British Royal Navy’s new River-class offshore patrol vessel (OPV) HMS Medway.
The repairs and maintenance were delivered by the company along with Royal Navy Ship Staff in Naval Station Mayport in Jacksonville, Florida from December last year to January this year.

April 22 (UPI) The USS Philippine Sea has returned to Florida s Naval Station Mayport, marking the end of a nearly 10-month deployment, the Navy announced Thursday.
The guided-missile cruiser traveled nearly 60,000 nautical miles during its deployment, operating in in the Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean Sea, Red Sea, including the Gulf of Aqaba, the Indian Ocean, Arabian Sea and the Arabian Gulf, according to a Navy press release.
