Naval Aviationâs operating instruction has been updated with information to help aviators not only mitigate but avoid physiological episodesânaval aviationâs No. 1 safety priority. Physiological episodes (PEs) occur when aircrew experience physiological symptoms such as dizziness or cognitive degradation which may impair their ability to perform cockpit duties. The Physiological Episodes Action Team (PEAT) has incorporated what theyâve learned in the âGeneral Flight and Operating Instructions Manual CNAF M-3710.7â after extensive Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) analyses of aircraft systems and medical investigations since the PEATâs inception in 2017. Vice Adm. Kenneth Whitesell, Commander, Naval Air Forces and Naval Air Force, Pacific Fleet, visited the Commander, Naval Air Force Atlantic headquarters in Norfolk, Virginia, Nov. 23, to meet with the AIRLANT Commander, Rear Adm. John Meier, and observe the activities of the Maintenance Operations Center (MOC). The MOC is a collective which includes Navy supply, maintenance, and engineering specialists, as well as private industry corporations partnered with the Navy, working together to assess and improve the operational readiness for aircraft throughout the Navy.
