When U.S Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Alyssa David had almost finished a 10-hour drive back to Onslow County from her home of Bridgeport, Connecticut, she didn’t anticipate doing something that would earn her the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal.
But she did.
Remembering that dark and wet September night in an interview published by 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing (2nd MAW), David said she pulled off the road along Kinston Highway because she thought she had run over something.
It must have been fate telling her to stop, because the person riding with her noticed an accident nearby.
