Government contractor employees take initiative to feed the hungry

Employees of a government contractor working on local military bases have taken it into their own hands to feed the hungry this holiday season.  A recent employee-led food drive put on by Environmental Chemical Corporation (ECC), a company doing hurricane recovery and infrastructure work on area Marine Corps installations, helped raise thousands of dollars and feed hundreds of people in the Jacksonville and New Bern areas.  “I just thought with our footprint here that we need to be really helping out in the local community,” said ECC employee Erika Mularski, who headed up the Giving Thanks Food Drive at the company’s office on Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune.

500+ children living on Camp Lejeune get early Christmas gifts

Atlantic Marine Corps Communities (AMCC) residents on Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune got to see Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus and the Grinch this week as AMCC hosted its annual “Home for the Holidays” event in a socially distanced, drive-thru fashion, Dec. 9.  More than 500 kids living on Camp Lejeune received goodie bags and toys courtesy of AMCC and its partners. For AMCC project director John Giltz, the event is about creating a sense of community for AMCC’s residents. “It is a wonderful event and an opportunity for us to see the community in a different way,” Giltz said. “It’s important for me [and] our staff to do that just to continue to show that we are here and committed to them.”
