Virtual Boat Show Season

Virtual Boat Show Season Jan 26, 2021 The monthly Pulse Report survey asks dealers about the overall effectiveness of virtual boat shows for driving leads and sales, and engaging consumers, compared with in-person events. The five-question survey also asks dealers to rate the impact of retail trends on inventory of new and used boats, availability of parts and accessories, trade-in activity and governmental action. Launched by the Marine Retailers Association of the Americas and Baird Research in 2013, the survey gauges monthly retail conditions. Soundings Trade Only teamed with Baird to disseminate the survey and report the results online and in print. The survey also includes the Marine Retail Sentiment Index.

Q&A with Stephanie Vatalaro

Q&A with Stephanie Vatalaro Senior Vice President, Marketing and Communications , Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation Author: Stephanie Vatalaro, Senior Vice President, Marketing and Communications , Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation Boating and fishing have been continuous threads in Stephanie Vatalaro’s life. She was born in Ohio “into a boating family,” spending weekends aboard her grandparents’ boat on Lake Erie. Things changed dramatically when she turned 7 and her immediate family moved to Islamorada, Fla. “When we moved there in 1983, it was the authentic Keys. A little more of that beatnik personality,” Vatalaro says. Her dad found his calling as a guide and offshore captain. “[He] really fell into and stayed with it a long time flats fishing, backcountry fishing. So I grew up in the fishing capital of the world, and my dad was a fishing guide, so obviously [I] spent a lot of time on the water growing up.”

What are Your Winter Priorities?

What are Your Winter Priorities? Author: Jan 5, 2021 The monthly Pulse Report survey asks dealers to weigh in on how they are spending the winter months following a summer and fall that saw new-boat demand spike. The five-question survey was launched by the Marine Retailers Association of the Americas and Baird Research in 2013 to gauge monthly retail conditions. Soundings Trade Only partnered with Baird to help distribute the survey and report its results. The survey analyzes such data points as new-boat demand, inventory levels and access to credit. It also includes the Marine Retail Sentiment Index, which gauges retailer confidence.

2021 Projections Vary

2021 Projections Vary Author: Dec 27, 2020 Demand for new and used boats continued through November, but a shortage of inventory from manufacturers and a host of other economic uncertainties prompted many dealers to project low, single-digit growth in 2021. Responses to the November Pulse Report survey, conducted by Baird Research in conjunction with the Marine Retailers Association of the Americas and Soundings Trade Only, were lower than typical, with 57 dealers weighing in on current market conditions. About 55 percent of respondents expect growth between 3 and 5 percent for the year ahead, though projections varied drastically; the next most popular choice was 6 to 10 percent growth; the No. 3 choice was split between the outlook that business would be flat versus those who thought it would be down 15 percent or more.
