Landbank casts P2-B credit line for fishing boat purchase

February 16, 2021 IN LINE with supporting the fisheries sector, Land Bank of the Philippines (Landbank) is offering a new credit facility to assist existing and prospective commercial fishing operators in acquiring fishing vessels for domestic or overseas use. Under the P2-billion Landbank Commercial Fishing Vessel Financing Program, eligible borrowers may loan up to 80 percent of the acquisition cost to purchase a brand-new, second-hand or refurbished commercial fishing boat and related equipment for their business. Landbank remains steadfast in supporting the fisheries sector. We are looking to cover the requirements for fishing vessels to assist more fishers in boosting their production and profit, and contribute to ensuring food security in the country, Landbank president and CEO Cecilia C. Borromeo said.

Marina launches training institute in Bacolod

SunStar + February 12, 2021 THE Maritime Industry Authority (Marina), through a virtual soft launching, has announced on Thursday, February 11, 2021, the opening of the Marina Training Institute (MarTI) located at the four-story Marina Regional Office–Western Visayas building situated inside Panaad Park in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City. The MarTI, as an academic arm of the Marina, is envisioned to be the country’s Maritime Innovation and Knowledge Center under Program 8 of the 10-Year Maritime Industry Development Plan, providing not only national but global maritime leadership training. The operationalization of MarTI is aimed to improve the capacity of Marina and other partners to innovate and operate modern technologies, to spearhead programs to help the country tackle the changing trends in the maritime industry and to serve as a systematic educational and training system and facilities for all maritime professionals.

Its 2020 Year-End Performance Assessment revealed that NMP trained a total of 5,405 maritime professionals composed of aspiring and active seafarers, maritime educators, assessors, supervisors, and other allied personnel in the maritime industry. The said number represents a 13.55 percent increase from its reformulated annual target of 4,500 trainees, a notable rise even as it temporarily stopped operations for three months due to the Covid-19 induced lockdowns and public safety measures. Industry stakeholders pursue capital intensive projects for shipping – The Manila Times
