GPC a finalist in national maritime awards

Hosted by national shipping publication, Daily Cargo News, the industry event recognises movers and shakers in Australia’s maritime and shipping industries. GPC was nominated for its supply chain with its industry technology, the Digital Twin Decision Automation system and it’s safety protocol for its Clinton Vessel Interaction project. Port Services and Performance principal Line Corfixen was also nominated for her focus on safety, working closely with Australian Health Authorities, Maritime Safety Queensland and Australian Boarder Force.

King tide to be lowest highest level in years

Premium Content Subscriber only Wide Bay will experience its king tide of the year one month from today, but records show it may be the lowest on paper in seven years. Data shows the highest summer tide is set to reach 4.12m at Urangan on February 28 at precisely 9.29am. Burnett Heads is expected to reach 3.48m at 9.21am on the same day. However the predicted water level is the lowest high tide in both regions that BOM and Maritime Safety Queensland (MSQ) records show from 2014. On March 3, 2020 the king tide hit 4.27m at Urangan and 3.58m at Burnett Heads. In February 2019 a monster tide of 4.32m sent water spilling over Hervey Bay roads and almost swallowed Urangan Pier.

Seizure notice placed on abandoned vessel in CQ waters

The vessel displays the name “Stardust” and the registration symbols UZ840Q. It is described as a 12.3m long, ferrocement, mono hull sailing vessel that is white in colour. Maritime Safety Queensland has reported it is located at Port Alma Harbour at the position of: Latitude: -23.591950°, longitude: 150.862783°. The vessel is anchored at Port Alma. If the vessel is not claimed by the owner by 4pm on Monday, February 8, it may be seized and removed to be sold at public auction or destroyed.

Premium Content Subscriber only Equipment has been installed at the Port of Bundaberg to gain a better understanding of the environment and improve safety systems. Teaming up with the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), Gladstone Ports Corporation (GPC) has installed a new water quality and wind monitoring station on top of a pylon in the mouth of the river. CSIRO Research Scientist Geoffrey Carlin said the new equipment would collect comprehensive data and water readings to assist scientists when monitoring the effects on coastal waters and reefs. The installation of water quality monitoring instrumentation is a collaborative effort that provides key data to CSIRO, GPC, Maritime Safety Queensland and Queensland Sugar Limited, Mr Carlin said.
