The Lagos State Government has moved to take over from the Presidential Taskforce on Port Decongestion and create a new operational template for the taskforce.
This is seen as part of the steps being taken by the state government to restore sanity to the Apapa axis that has been bedeviled by serious traffic congestion, which has impacted negatively on businesses and lives in that environment.
The disclosure was made by the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, during an unplanned fact-finding visit to Apapa, on Monday, to ascertain the causes of incessant gridlocks on roads leading to the seaports, which revealed several factors responsible for the congestion.
•Governor To Meet Amaechi, IGP Over Officials’ Misconduct At Seaports
An unplanned fact-finding visit to Apapa, on Monday, by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to ascertain the causes of incessant gridlock on roads leading to the seaports has revealed several factors, which are responsible for the congestion.
It was the fourth time Governor Sanwo-Olu and members of the State cabinet would be visiting Apapa over traffic congestion, which has impacted negatively on businesses and lives in the environ.
As the Governor physically assessed the complexity of the situation that allowed heavy-duty trucks to clog up the access roads, a blame game ensued between stakeholders operating within and around the Apapa seaports.

A rail revival is underway with new passenger services and a turn around in staff morale putting the formerly struggling sector back on track. A positive culture change at KiwiRail is being partly credited for declining rates of train drivers being pinged for lax behaviour. KiwRail figures obtained under the Official Information Act show 14 locomotive engineers were disciplined or formally cautioned during the 12 months to June 30 – with only one case involving a Waikato driver. The figure represents an almost 50 per cent reduction from 2018-19 when 27 drivers were cautioned or disciplined for negligence or behaviour issues.

Union organisers are calling for Port Otago chief executive Kevin Winders to resign as tension rises at Dunedin s port.

From the union s perspective the management at Port Otago had been out for revenge ever since, Kerr said.

The union representing rail workers is calling for action to a make a notorious Wellington rail bottleneck safer.
The Transport Accident Investigation Commission (TAIC) released a report today into an incident in November 2019 at the ‘Wellington Throat’, the convergence point of tracks coming into and out of the Wellington Railway Station.
A train failed to stop at a red light and potentially could have collided with another train, known as a ‘signal passed at danger’ event.
