Denmark expresses keen interest in developing Pakistan s maritime sector January 28, 2021 Denmark has expressed its keen interest in developing Pakistan s maritime sector. This was expressed by Danish Ambassador Lis Rosenholm at a meeting with Minister of Maritime Affairs Syed Ali Haider Zaidi in Islamabad on Thursday. The Minister apprised the Ambassador about the development and progress in the Pakistan maritime sector, and also shared his vision and plans to advance the blue economy in Pakistan. Both sides agreed on close coordination and strengthening of ties in the maritime sector as Denmark is one of the largest maritime shipping nations of the world and Pakistan can benefit from its expertise.

The meeting was briefed on the overall progress of CPEC projects in industrial cooperation, energy, infrastructure, Gwadar, science and technology, socioeconomic development, agriculture, transport and communications and issues faced in the implementation of these projects. Minister for Planning Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar chaired the meeting of the committee. The committee noted that significant progress had been achieved in various projects. The chair said CPEC was a priority project for enhancing Pak-China economic cooperation.

National January 22, 2021 ISLAMABAD: Keeping in view the depletion of natural gas to the tune of 400 mmcfd, the Cabinet Committee on Energy (CCOE) on Thursday slapped a moratorium on supply of gas to industrial units for self-generation electricity. Top officials of the government told this scribe it was found that the natural gas has depleted from the system to the tune of 9.4 percent, translating into 400 mmcfd gas within the last two years, and the gas sector is witnessing massive shortages. In order to optimally use the scarce available natural gas, an exercise was undertaken for assessing the usage of gas by Captive Power Plants (CPPs) both by SSGCL and SNGPL. There are total 1,121 CPPs, with 362 in SNGPL and 849 in SSGCL, and total number of electricity connections stood at 976 while there were 235 CPPs without electricity connections. It is estimated that the gas/RLNG consumption requirement stood at 415 mmcfd.
