I urge all Bow and Dunbarton voters to mark Tuesday, June 8 on their calendar. That is the special election date that will allow us to win back our voice representing us in the state house. Coach Chris Lins is an exciting candidate who has pledged to.
There is much that I disagree with in the budget now being considered by the NH legislature, particularly the choice to underfund basic social needs, to cut taxes on the wealthy and to shift the costs to the property taxpayer. These are all legitimate.
Turns out the Cassandras had it right: NH does have reason to question our election results. Not from Gov. Sununu’s hordes of bus-chartering, out-of-state interlopers, nor from the scheming college students who have the nerve to register to vote in.

America is exceptional not because we believe in an idolized version of the past, but because Americans can look at our shared history with a critical eye. Americans should not be afraid to discuss the history of racism and oppression that has existed in America. I want to respond to Michael Moffett’s recent My Turn (Monitor, 5/29). Mr. Moffett, love of one’s country and a willingness to improve it can coexist. It is not one or the other. If we are to fulfill the original mandate that everyone is entitled to liberty and freedom then we must be willing to discuss the fact that liberty and freedom has been denied to our fellow citizens and is indeed being denied today. Ignoring flaws in our society only allows these issues to fester, to the detriment of all of us. We too are proud and appreciative of what our country has achieved, appreciative of the blessings we have enjoyed as citizens.
