FCA Annual Day Of Champions To Be Held May 16 Wednesday, May 12, 2021 Chattanooga FCA to Host Annual Day of Champions Sunday, May 16 The Greater Chattanooga Fellowship of Christian Athletes will host its annual Day of Champions event Sunday, May 16 at 3 PM at Ridgedale Baptist Church. At this event, the ministry will announce several award winners, most notably the 2021 FCA Christian Athlete of the Year. Since 1965, the local FCA chapter has chosen a senior athlete nominated by their local school’s FCA sponsor for this award based on their character, leadership, and involvement with FCA. The winner will receive a college scholarship from the Gerald Sinkfield Memorial Scholarship Fund. Mr. Sinkfield was a prominent high school and college athlete who loved the FCA ministry and served on the Chattanooga FCA board for many years.

Harding University President David Burks met with Harding Academy teachers and staff Friday to announce the hire of James Gurchiek as superintendent and Bradley Francis as high school principal.  “The search committee and I have been very serious in our efforts to select the best people to lead Harding Academy,” said President Burks. “We prayed that God would answer our prayers, and I believe he has done just that. I have no doubt that we have found two people who will bring a Christ-centered approach and attitude to everything that they do.”  James Gurchiek has more than 25 years experience working with Searcy Public Schools. Prior to accepting the role of superintendent, he served as the principal for McRae Elementary. Gurchiek serves on the Arkansas Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, Arkansas Association of Educational Administrators, and as a Cognia State Council Member. 

Arvest Names Brooks Davis to Lead Conway, Morrilton Markets

Arvest has named Brooks Davis community bank president of its Conway and Morrilton markets. He most recently served as senior vice president and commercial loan manager for Arvest in Little Rock. Davis has 26 years of experience in the banking industry, and spent the majority of his career as president and CEO of Simmons Bank of Searcy. He also spent five years serving as a management and improvement coach for multiple industries. Davis holds a bachelor’s in business management from Harding University and a master’s in business administration from Arkansas State University. He is also a graduate of the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at the University of Delaware.

Harding University’s spring commencement ceremonies will be held Friday and Saturday, May 7 and 8, celebrating the accomplishments of more than 800 students. A ceremony will be held Friday, May 7 at 4 p.m., and four ceremonies will be held Saturday, May 8 at 9 a.m., 12 p.m., 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. in the University’s George S. Benson Auditorium. All COVID-19 guidelines for social distancing and safety will be followed.  Members of this semester’s graduating class represent 16 different nations and territories, as well as 42 states.  Degrees will be conferred from the College of Allied Health, College of Arts and Humanities, College of Bible and Ministry, Paul R. Carter College of Business Administration, Cannon-Clary College of Education, Carr College of Nursing, College of Pharmacy, College of Sciences, Honors College and University College.
