Military Science to Commission Five Army Officers Friday

JONESBORO – Five new Army officers will be commissioned by the Department of Military Science at Arkansas State University in a ceremony Friday, Dec. 18.
The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. in the Military Science building, 1921 Aggie Road, when A-State candidates Steven Crow of Salem, Robert Adkins Jr. of Sherrill and Landon Grimmett of North Little Rock (and Arkansas State University-Beebe) will be commissioned as second lieutenants into the United States Army Reserve.
At 11 a.m., a ceremony will be held for cadets from the Harding University detachment of the Red Wolf Battalion with the commissioning of two students as second lieutenants. They are Samuel Wilson of Jenks, Okla., and Ryan Tabor of Crossville, Tenn., into the U.S. Army Reserves.

BAHAMIAN basketball players have been making their presence felt in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and now Grand Bahamian former player Jamaal Greene is coming to the forefront as an assistant coach.
Greene, 38, became the assistant coach in 2011 for the McLennan Community College Highlanders’ basketball programme in Waco, Texas.

Since joining the staff, Greene has helped lead the Highlanders to three second-place finishes and four North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference Championships, including three consecutive championships from 2016 to 2018.
The Highlanders earned an 8-6 conference record in 2019 to attain the programme’s 17th consecutive Region V Tournament appearance, and they finished the season with an overall record of 22-9. Elementary school students in the Santa Barbara Unified School District have experienced a 15% increase in reading test scores, but a drop of 8% in math test scores, according to data presented at Tuesday night s school board meeting.
Chronic absenteeism is also up at two schools, Cleveland Elementary and Harding University Partnership. At Harding, absenteeism jumped about 6% from the year prior.
At the junior high and high school levels, the number of students with three or more Ds or Fs has increased from the year prior.
