Letter to PM calls for uniform, free COVID immunisation for all amid crisis
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi stating that the vaccine policy of the Centre is “highly discriminatory and anti-people”.
“I am afraid, this policy is highly discriminatory and anti-people. Moreover, it appears that there is a bias in favour of market against the interest of common people,” Ms. Banerjee said in the letter addressed to Mr. Modi.

The bench, also comprising justices L Nageswara Rao and S Ravindra Bhat, would take up the plea for hearing on Friday. A lawyers’ body Thursday moved the Supreme Court, which has taken suo motu cognisance of prevailing grim pandemic situation in the country, urging it to allow various high courts to deal with the COVID-19 related issues at local level saying they “appear to be best suited to deal with the situation”.
The top court also hinted that it would deal with the method and manner of COVID-19 vaccination in the country and the aspect relating to judicial power of the high courts to declare lockdown amid the pandemic.

Remdesivir is manufactured by at least two companies in and around Hyderabad. Till Wednesday, the State was procuring it directly.
Though Telangana has placed order for over 4 lakh vials of Remdesivir, the State was allotted only 21551 vials of the antiviral drug for ten days (April 21-30). Telangana Health Minister Eatala Rajender who pressed alarm bells over crucial COVID-19 resources, has called out central government’s discrimination in allotting the antiviral drug, oxygen, vaccines, to the State.

Tweeting his decision, Mr. Modi said, “Tomorrow, will be chairing high-level meetings to review the prevailing COVID-19 situation. Due to that, I would not be going to West Bengal.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi cancelled his election rallies for Friday, looking at the exponential rise in COVID-19 cases in the country which topped 3,15,000 cases on Thursday. He will, instead be holding meetings on COVID-19 management with with Chief Ministers of high burden states, and with leading oxygen manufacturers of the country.
Tweeting his decision, Prime Minister Modi said, “Tomorrow, will be chairing high-level meetings to review the prevailing COVID-19 situation. Due to that, I would not be going to West Bengal”. He was scheduled to address four meetings including one at Shaheed Minar grounds in Kolkata. There was some talk that he might hold a virtual rally on Friday but BJP sources refused to confirm the same.
