Pennington County Public Warning Messages test scheduled for Wednesday, April 21

KNBN NewsCenter1 April 15, 2021 PENNINGTON COUNTY, S.D. Public Warning Messages are used to communicate with citizens and businesses during critical events such as severe weather and other life-threatening emergencies. The system was most recently used to notify individuals being evacuated during the Schroeder Fire on March 29. The Pennington County system will send a test message on Wednesday, April 21 between 9 a.m. – 9:15 a.m., at the same time as the planned tornado drill, and held during Severe Weather Awareness Week, April 19 – 23. This test message will only be sent to individuals who have self-registered for Public Warning Messages.  Anyone wishing to sign up for Public Warning Messages can do so here. Businesses and residents listed in the Pennington County 911 database (landlines) are automatically subscribed to alerts by phone.

Outdoor Warning Sirens Being Tested Thursday UNDATED  During this annual Severe Weather Awareness Week, the outdoor warning sirens will be tested Thursday. The first test will happen at 1:45 p.m. and the second test is at 6:45 p.m. The National Weather Service reminds you that counties and cities own the sirens and therefore decide how and when to activate them. Some will active sirens across an entire county for tornado warnings only. Others will activate sirens countywide for tornado warnings and all severe thunderstorm warnings. Sirens normally sound for about three minutes, it is very rare to keep the sirens sounding for the entire warning.

Don t Be Alarmed, Civil Defense Sirens Will Sound In MN Thursday

The weather is warming up and it won t be long before we start getting our first few bouts of severe weather. As a result, the Benton County Sheriff s Office is reminding the public that they ll be testing out the civil defense sirens on Thursday, April 15. Get our free mobile app You ll hear the sirens at 1:45 p.m. and again at 6:45 p.m. During this time, you re encouraged to practice a safety plan with your family. You should use this day to formulate your severe weather plan and put together a safety kit for your home. Schools across Minnesota will be practicing their tornado drill at 1:45 p.m. Several work places are also encouraged to create a plan of their own and practice it today.
