Oli is confident that Nepal is headed for mid-term polls a couple of months down the line. And if that happens, he can always tell the people of the country that he was the one who wanted to seek a fresh mandate by dissolving Parliament last year itself.

KATHMANDU: Nepal Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli on Monday lost the vote of confidence in the Parliament with 93 lawmakers voting in favour of the motion, 124 against it, while 15 remained neutral.
Oli needed 136 votes to win the trust vote in the 271-strong House of Representatives. Of the 232 lawmakers present in the House on Monday, 93 cast their votes in favour of Oli, while 124 voted against the motion. A total of 15 lawmakers remained neutral.
Nepal President Bidya Devi Bhandari has called on parties to form a new majority government by Thursday after the one headed by the embattled Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli lost a trust vote. The Office of the President, in a statement on Monday, said President Bhandari has decided to invite parties to form a majority government pursuant to Article 76 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal. She has allotted the parties three days time, asking them to stake their claim to the government by 9:00 pm on Thursday, The Himalayan Times reported. As per the constitutional provision, a candidate requires to submit signatures of lawmakers belonging to two or more political parties in parliament to the Office of President within the stipulated time.
