Massachusetts Institute of Technology By many lights, these are challenging times: The worldwide Covid-19 pandemic, the climate crisis, rampant political polarization, and the social and economic effects of globalization have all contributed to a sense of unease or outright turmoil around the globe. This summer, the Venice Biennale’s 17th International Architecture Exhibition, the world’s premier event of its kind, is directly tackling those types of issues, led by the exhibition’s curator, Hashim Sarkis, dean of MIT’s School of Architecture and Planning. As curator, Sarkis chose the exhibition’s organizing question: “How will we live together?” It is a searching approach, asking architects and designers to envision new solutions to our pressing social concerns.
