National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) Director Dr. Anthony Fauci made the admission in a 2014 interview. But it appears that he has backtracked on this statement amid the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic, with him and other health officials endorsing quarantines and similar measures.
NBC News happened amid the Ebola virus outbreak in West Africa. The incident which occurred from 2014 to 2016 prompted the deployment of U.S. health workers in affected areas. The NIAID director advised state officials against putting healthcare workers who helped out in West Africa in quarantine. He said that time: “You don’t have to put [returning healthcare workers] in a confined place.”
The new COVID numbers in Oneida remain steady and well below the winter spike the area experienced in December and January. In Herkimer County, the health department there is seeing a slight uptick in case, however the positivity rate remains low.
On Saturday, Oneida County reported 33 new positive cases and 563 active cases in the county, dramatically lower than December when active cases were over 9,000. There were no new deaths in Oneida County and 31 county residents remain hospitalized.
Herkimer County reported 19 new cases on Friday, and 12 new cases on Saturday, bringing their active positive COVID-19 cases to 71. There were no new deaths reported on Saturday and eight county residents remain hospitalized.
Four COVID-19 Deaths Over Weekend in Mohawk Valley
There were four new deaths in the region from COVID-19, according to local health departments. Oneida County reported two deaths on Saturday and two on Sunday, bringing the total number of people in the county who have died of COVID-19 to 394. Herkimer County reported no new deaths and remains at a total of 94 deaths from the disease since the pandemic began a year ago.
The positive news is the far lower plateau reached in both counties with new daily cases of well under 100. Oneida County is at a season low of 616 active cases with a total of 88 new cases over the weekend. Herkimer County reported 20 new cases of the virus and 94 active cases currently.

Political parties from the opposition have called for the introduction of mandatory hotel quarantine for all arrivals into the country’s (ferry)ports and airports.
Mandatory hotel quarantine legislation, which would see passengers from 20 countries stay in facilities for two weeks upon arrival into the country, was brought before the Dáil today by Health Minister Stephen Donnelly.
