Third round of WNY Fund microgrants supports 36 grants, $45,000 in COVID-19 relief | News, Sports, Jobs

Feb 15, 2021 For the third time since the beginning of the pandemic, philanthropic leaders in Cattaraugus County helped facilitate the distribution of microgrants from the WNY COVID-19 Community Fund Response Fund to organizations working on the front lines to provide relief to those most impacted by the ongoing pandemic, culminating in 36 grants totaling $45,000. The Western New York COVID-19 Community Response Fund was created by the philanthropic community to support nonprofits addressing immediate needs in response to the COVID-19 crisis in the eight counties of Western New York. In the prior rounds of grantmaking, the WNY Fund’s microgrant program issued $34,000 in relief funding to the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation, which acted as the fiscal agent to distribute grants to organizations providing needed services to vulnerable and impacted populations.

The college has announced to students that it will not raise tuition for the 2021-22 school year one key decision that is part of a much larger financial pie. “It is a bit of an educated gamble on our part to hold tuition where we have had it this last year and if we need to make cuts, we’ll cut elsewhere,” DeMarte said. “The core of why we made this decision is we know this pandemic is not going to last forever. Cattaraugus County Reports 3 New COVID Deaths | News, Sports, Jobs

editorial@post-journal.com The Cattaraugus County Department of Health reported three additional COVID-related deaths. They involve an 84-year-old woman, 97-year-old man and 40-year-old woman. To date, 64 Cattaraugus County residents have died due to COVID-19 complications. “We extend our deepest condolences to their family and the entire Cattaraugus County community,” the county Health Department said. There have been 3,128 confirmed cases of the virus in Cattaraugus County, with 489 cases considered active. There also have been 2,578 recoveries and 43 people with the virus in the hospital. County Reports 46th COVID Death, 67 New Cases | News, Sports, Jobs

editorial@post-journal.com The Chautauqua County Department of Health reported another COVID-related death on Wednesday, marking 46 to date during the pandemic and six in the last week. The county also recorded 67 new COVID cases, of which 21 involve people living in the Dunkirk zip code, six in Fredonia, 12 in Jamestown and five each in Silver Creek and Falconer. Several municipalities also had between one and three new cases, according to information collected for Tuesday and released Wednesday by health officials. There have been 5,198 confirmed cases of the virus in the county, with 695 currently considered active. In addition, 42 people with the virus were in the hospital, unchanged from information released Tuesday, as well as 2,317 people in quarantine.
