Oil, Natural Gas Companies Urged to Leverage Infrastructure, Expertise to Advance Biden Climate Agenda

Oil, Natural Gas Companies Urged to Leverage Infrastructure, Expertise to Advance Biden Climate Agenda Oil and natural gas companies can play a vital role in achieving President Biden’s ambitious climate change goals if they choose to embrace it. In remarks delivered at CERAweek by IHS Markit, which was held in early March, Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Jennifer Granholm and Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry said fossil fuel companies should leverage their existing infrastructure and expertise to help decarbonize the energy sector through new technologies.  These include carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS), along with green and blue hydrogen, all of which will be vital to meeting Biden’s goals of a carbon emissions free power sector by 2035 and a carbon neutral economy by 2050.

Headline Politics: NDP MP Discusses Tax Fairness for Tradespersons

NDP MP Discusses Tax Fairness for Tradespersons NDP MP Scott Duvall holds a virtual news conference to discuss his private member’s bill (C-275) that would allow workers in the building and construction trades to deduct travel and accommodation expenses for work at job sites located at least 80 kilometres away from their residence. He is joined by caucus colleague Alexandre Boulerice, as well as Robert Kucheran, chair of the executive board of Canada’s Building Trades Unions (CBTU), and Sean Strickland, executive director of CBTU. Workers in other sectors are able to deduct travel and accommodation expenses if they are not reimbursed by employers, but skilled trades workers are denied this option. Duvall says the legislation will improve conditions for better regional mobility for trade workers, as well as improve access to businesses and employers to a larger pool of qualified tradespeople.
