Atlantic City drug dealer charged in Evesham fatal overdose

Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina and Evesham Township Police Chief Christopher Chew have announced that an Atlantic City drug dealer was charged Dec. 15 with causing the death of a 37-year-old woman who fatally overdosed in Evesham Township last year on fentanyl-laced heroin he sold to her the day before she died. Kahlil Carpenter, 30, of the 1800 block of Marmora Avenue, was charged with Strict Liability for Drug-Induced Death (First Degree), Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Third Degree) and Distribution of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Third Degree). Carpenter was served with the warrant this morning at the Burlington County Jail in Mount Holly, where he is lodged on an unrelated narcotics charge. He will be scheduled for a detention hearing in Superior Court.

Lateef Reevey, 31, of Long Branch, pleaded guilty on Thursday to first-degree strict liability for drug-induced death, according to Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni. The charges stem from an overdose death that took place last February in Tinton Falls, Gramiccioni said. Lucy Yardley, 25, of Flanders died on Feb. 21.  Reevey admitted that he provided Yardley with the heroin stamped “Eternity” and that the heroin/fentanyl mixture caused her death, the prosecutor said. Im New Jersey, a person who distributes a Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) is strictly liable for a death which results from the injection, inhalation or ingestion of that substance, Gramiccioni said.

Sparta Police blotter Check on vehicle in Sparta Glen results in CDS arrest On Dec. 1 at approximately 9:30 p.m., Sparta police officer Jonathan Poon checked on a white Mazda parked in the Sparta Glen after dark. The driver, Timothy Burlew, 18, of Hopatcong, N.J., rolled his window down to speak with Poon. A small cloud of smoke escaped from within the vehicle and Poon detected the odor of marijuana. When asked about the odor, Burlew said there was still a small amount of marijuana within his vehicle, which he took ownership of. A search of the vehicle revealed marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Burlew was placed under arrest and transported to Sparta Police headquarters to be processed. A male passenger in the vehicle was released without any charges. Burlew was charged with Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, advised of a mandatory court appearance, and released.

On Friday, December 4, 2020, at approximately 4:30 p.m., Natchitoches Parish Sheriff s Office Deputies stopped a 2015 Chrysler 300 passenger car for a traffic violation on HWY 6 West, near I-49. The driver was identified as 42-year-old Felecia LeBum of Houston, TX. A passenger in the vehicle, the brother of Miss LeBum was identified as 38-year-old Shun T. LeBum of Shreveport, LA. Deputies say while speaking with both individuals they appeared very nervous leading them to believe criminal activity existed. During the traffic stop, deputies say conflicting statements led them to ask Miss LeBum if there were any illegal items in the vehicle Her response: “some marijuana”.
