Bird flu cases spread to six states, Centre calls for awareness on safety of poultry products

avian influenza outbreak has spread to six states in the country, the Centre has requested states and Union Territories (UTs) to increase awareness regarding the safety of
poultry or poultry products. It has also issued appropriate advisories to restore consumer confidence affected by rumors is put to rest.
These six include Kerala, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, and Gujarat. Awareness among poultry farmers and the general public (consumers of eggs and chicken) about the disease is of foremost importance. Communication from Secretary (AHD) has been sent to Health Ministry to restore consumer confidence in consumption of chicken and eggs, the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying said.

Chandigarh (Punjab) [India], January 9 (ANI): The entire state of Punjab has been declared a controlled area in view of the outbreak of the Avian Influenza (Bird Flu) affecting birds in neighbouring states.
As per a statement from the Punjab government, a complete ban has also been imposed on the import of live birds including poultry and unprocessed poultry meat into the state till January 15.
The decision will be reviewed based on the evolving situation, the statement said.
Additional Chief Secretary of the Animal Husbandry Department VK Janjua said that both the decisions were taken in consultation with the Animal Husbandry Minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa to prevent and control the spread of Avian Influenza, a scheduled disease in the state.

New Delhi [India], January 9 (ANI): As many as 17 crows were found dead at a park in Delhi s Mayur Vihar Phase 3, two at a DDA park in Dwarka, and 16 in Hastsal village of West district on Saturday, following which the Delhi government collected samples to investigate for avian influenza that has been seen in several parts of the country.
According to sources from the Delhi Chief Minister s Office, four samples each were collected from Mayur Vihar and Hastsal, and one was collected from Dwarka. After receiving reports about the death of some crows in A2, Central park located in Mayur Vihar Phase 3, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia took note of the incident and directed the concerned department to immediately visit the spot. JAMMU, Jan 7: Panic gripped the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir after over 100 birds were found dead in Udhampur, Rajouri and Billawar in Kathua district during past 24 hours while the Government today banned the import of poultry birds to J&K amidst bird flu scare.
Official sources told the Excelsior that about 100 crows were found dead near Kendriya Vidyalaya, on Dhar Road Udhampur this morning. Some children spotted dead crows and informed nearby people. Then the locals contacted Police and Wildlife Protection Department.
