NEW DELHI, May 18:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said today that continuous efforts are being made to ramp up COVID-19 vaccine supply in a big way, asserting that attempts are on to provide States 15-day advance schedule of the inoculation programme as it will allow them to prepare accordingly.
Interacting with State and district officials at a virtual meeting, he described them as “field commanders” in the fight against COVID-19 and said localised Containment Zones, aggressive testing and sharing correct and complete information with people are weapons to defeat it.

GUWAHATI: Containment zones in Ward no. 8, 16, and 28 in Guwahati have now been withdrawn after a gradual decrease in COVID-19 positivity rate was witnessed during the last two weeks.
This was informed via an official order issued by the office of the Deputy Commissioner.
Further the notification states, In view of the gradual decrease in positivity rate of COVID-19 virus during last two weeks in the containment vines notified vide this office s order no. DDMA K(M)-03/2020/19: Dated: 05-05-2021, the containment order declaring containment zones in Ward No. 8, 16, 28 is hereby withdrawn w.e.f. 5:00 AM, 17. May 2021.
Assam chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, “Directed to extend curfew hoursstarting from 12 noon in consultation with business community & leading citizens; increase containment zones, extend livelihood help to the needy. Advised them to be careful in allowing home quarantine to people above 50 yrs.”

JAMMU, May 7: Jammu and Kashmir’s COVID cases today crossed 5000 for the first time since pandemic broke out and the UT for third consecutive day reported 50 or more casualties. Jammu region accounted for 29 deaths and 1868 cases.
Among 29 COVID fatalities in Jammu region, 24 alone were reported from Jammu district. Rajouri district recorded four deaths and Ramban one. Of the total casualties, eight were women while three persons died at home. A Deputy Director Prosecution, two women, who were close relatives, retired District and Sessions Judge, New Delhi based businessman and an official of Education Department were among the COVID victims.
