Ardgillan Community College in Balbriggan and Donabate Community College have signed up for the Design a Home for Everyone a CIF national competition aimed at attracting young people into the construction industry.
The Construction Industry Federation s Design a Home for Everyone Competition has seen entries from over 55 schools nationwide enter the competition. Ardgillan Community College in Balbriggan and Donabate Community College are competing against other schools nationwide.
Due to the ongoing lockdown, the deadline for entries has been extended to March 19th 2021 to allow schools more time to enter. To support students that have already entered, Class Of Your Own CEO, Alison Watson MBE will also deliver a webinar to assist schools who have registered their schools for the CIF Challenge. The webinar is designed to help students who are under pressure answer any questions and support them.
The Director General of the Construction Industry Federation says he does not accept that construction should not reopen fully by 8 March and he hopes that common sense will prevail.

Minister bows to pressure and approves €58m road linking Coonagh and Meelick

TRANSPORT Minister Eamon Ryan has bowed to considerable political pressure to finally approve the completion of the final phase of a €58 million major road linking Coonagh with Meelick.
Questioned several times by Clare and Limerick Dáil deputies from all parties, Minister Ryan had stated he was continuing to consider the recommendation from Limerick County Council regarding the award of the main construction contract for the scheme.
This had prompted stinging criticism locally that it meant the final phase of Coonagh to Meelick Distributor road was being effectively shelved.

Construction Industry Federation: Shelving road will put Limerick on wrong track’

THE Construction Industry Federation (CIF) say that cancelling or restricting the Coonagh/Knockalisheen Road will put Limerick “on the wrong track”.
Conor O’Connell, the southern director of the building lobby, says not building the link in its entirety will deny the possibility of more living spaces along its wayfare.
“The Coonagh to Knocklisheen road is vital for communities on the northside of Limerick City. It is part of a matrix of projects in the region that will facilitate sustainable levels of housing in the area to meet population demands. This road is part of the National Development Plan, the Limerick Regeneration initiative and is part of a very important pipeline of projects for the industry,” he said.
