Construction industry is still recruiting 21 December, 2020 Free Government-backed jobs portal has almost 1,000 vacancies listed already. According to December’s Office for National Statistics figures, the number of job vacancies now available in the construction industry is back up to pre-Covid levels. Some 26,000 vacancies are currently available in the sector, which represents a 43% increase since the last quarter. Construction is one of only three industries that has seen an increase in vacancies overall since the same time a year ago. Almost a thousand of those vacancies have recently been uploaded to the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy funded Construction Talent Retention Scheme, a recruitment platform launched by the Government, construction industry groups and businesses earlier this year.

Andrew Fullgrabe joins Construction Industry Training Board as new CEO

Architecture news & editorial desk The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) announces the appointment of Andrew Fullgrabe as its new Chief Executive. Fullgrabe brings to his new role extensive experience in defence, training and the housing industry; he has worked with the Australian Defence Force in a military role and performed a wide range of industry roles across the defence research and development sector. Prior to his appointment at CITB, he worked as director with the Defence Innovation Partnership. Fullgrabe is well-versed with the construction industry, having worked as training manager for the Housing Industry Association. He was also involved in the creation of the CITB more than 25 years ago and established the Housing Industry Training Scheme. Fullgrabe will commence work in early 2021.

Resilient skillsets for Scottish apprentices are not just a pipe dream

  AS we look to 2021, the easing of restrictions and an imminent vaccine seem to herald the signs of hope and progress. Without denying that the Scottish Government still has a huge job on its hands as it sets out plans for economic recovery, I was encouraged by the First Minister’s announcement about the package of support available under the Young Person’s Guarantee.  Part of the offer is a well-needed financial boost to employers through the new £15 million Apprenticeship Employer Grant. The grant will provide up to £5,000 for every person taken on or reskilled through an apprenticeship as it recognises the challenging circumstances employers face as a result of Coronavirus.
