KUALA LUMPUR: The main contractor and subcontractor of the Sungai Besi-Ulu Kelang Expressway (SUKE) project have been fined RM180,000 for failing to ensure safety at the highway construction site.
Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said this was following an incident in which a concrete slab fell from the elevated highway and crushed a passing vehicle on Sept 19.
Responding to a question from Senator Md Nasir Hashim on the action taken against the main contractor at the Dewan Negara today, he said the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) had conducted a Contractor Disciplinary Action proceeding on Nov 17 and imposed penalties on the main contractor and subcontractor of the SUKE project Package CA2.

PETALING JAYA: More than 200 individuals were arrested by the police on Tuesday (Dec 15) for violating the recovery movement control order (MCO), says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
The Senior Minister said police arrested 235 individuals for violating the standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Of the 235 individuals, he said, 233 were issued with compound fines while two were remanded. Among the offences include the failure to provide equipment to record customers details (82), incorrect way of putting on face masks (81), failure to comply with physical distancing rules (57), and others (15), he said in a statement on Wednesday (Dec 16).
As part of Operasi Benteng, Ismail said 40 illegal immigrants and five smugglers were arrested, while seven vehicles and four boats were seized.
