1,414 new cases of Covid-19 and 79 deaths have been reported by the Health Protection Surveillance Centre this evening (Saturday).
Of those cases 56 are in Waterford, 608 in Dublin, 105 in Cork and 96 in Galway .
The median age of those who died is 82 years and the age range is 56-98 years.
As of 2pm today, 1,492 COVID-19 patients are hospitalised, of which 211 are in ICU.
As of 8pm on Friday, the latest breakdown available showed University Hospital Waterford had the highest number of patients with Covid in the country at 108.
Dr. Tony Holohan, Chief Medical Officer, Department of Health said; “We have experienced over 1,000 deaths and more than 100,000 cases in January 2021. We have reported more cases in one month than we experienced throughout 2020. This shows just how quickly this disease can spread and how much it can impact public health.

The Health Protection Surveillance Centre has today been notified of 48 additional deaths related to Covid-19. 45 of these deaths occurred in January.
The median age of those who died is 82 years and the age range is 30-99 years. There has now been a total of 3,214 Covid-19 related deaths in Ireland.
As of midnight, Thursday, January 28, the HPSC has been notified of 1,254 confirmed cases of Covid-19. There is now a total of 193,892 confirmed cases of the virus here in Ireland.
Of the cases notified today:
- 587 are men / 658 are women

As of midnight, Thursday 28th January, the HPSC has been notified of 1,254 confirmed cases of COVID-19. There is now a total of 193,892 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ireland.
Of the cases notified today:
587 are men / 658 are women
54% are under 45 years of age
The median age is 42 years old
437 in Dublin, 146 in Cork, 76 in Meath, 69 in Wexford, 62 in Kildare and the remaining 464 cases are spread across all other counties

According to this evening’s statement from the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET), 50 deaths occurred in January.
The median age of those who died is 85 years and the age range is 55 to 96 years.
There has been a total of 3,120 COVID-19 related deaths in Ireland.
As of midnight Tuesday, January 26, the HPSC has been notified of 1,335 confirmed cases of COVID-19.
There has now been a total of 191,182 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ireland.
Of the cases notified today:
618 are men and 711 are women
