Malta registers 52 cases as 2 patients pass away

The latest victims are 69-year-old man and 71-year-old man, both died at Mater Dei Hospital. The death toll now stands at 394. 146 patients have recovered, thus the number of active cases stood at 740. Until Wednesday, the health authorities have administered 197,383 vaccine doses with 54,578 being the second dose. Superintendent of Public Health Professor Charmaine Gauci is scheduled to deliver her weekly briefing at 12.30pm on Thursday. A year since first Covid case registered in Malta

On this day last year, Deputy Prime Minister Chris Fearne and Superintendent of Public Health Professor Charmaine Gauci held a joint press conference and announced that an Italian national residing in Malta has tested positive for the virus upon her return to the country. Minister Fearne took to Facebook publishing a video showing the health authorities’ work throughout the pandemic’s first year. The video shows the preparations ahead of the pandemic, the arrival of the first batches of the coronavirus vaccines as well the roll out of the mass vaccination programme which prioritized front liners and elderly citizens.

LA VALLETTA (MALTA) (ITALPRESS/MNA) – Malta has registered a new record of COVID-19 cases. According to the local health authorities, 258 new cases were confirmed in the past 24 hours bringing the total of active cases to 2,582. According to the latest update, two individuals – an 83-year-old woman and a 76-year-old man became the latest victims after they died of coronavirus at Mater Dei Hospital. To date, 313 individuals have died of the virus. Until Thursday, 73,644 vaccine doses were administered and 23,395 individuals have so far received their second dose. During the weekly press briefing, Superintendent of Public Health Professor Charmaine Gauci confirmed that there is local transmission of the UK coronavirus variant and so far 61 cases have been confirmed. Only one case of South African variant has been confirmed so far.

Gozitan educators asked to come to Malta for Covid vaccine
