(Shutterstock) TUCSON, AZ Tucson s largest school district is mourning the loss of four of its staff to the coronavirus in a single week. The Tucson Unified School District lost four staff members to the coronavirus from Jan. 25 to 31, spokesperson Karla Escamilla confirmed to Patch. We will be honoring these staff members with a memorial tribute at the Feb. 9th TUSD Governing Board meeting, she said in an email. Subscribe TUSD declined to identify the staff members by name.

(KOLD News 13) - As some students continue their studies from home during the COVID-19 pandemic, Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction Kathy Hoffman said schools are projected to lose $500 million in formula funding. That’s because the state funds distanced learning 5 percent less than it does in-person instruction. Though the state implemented the Enrollment Stability Grant to help solve that problem, in her 2021 State of Education address Hoffman said it’s fallen short by about $247 million.

Latest Numbers on COVID-19 in Arizona, Yuma and La Paz Counties

Feb. 12  The Arizona Department of Health Services reported 2,426 new cases of COVID-19 throughout the state and 172 additional deaths related to the virus.  The state has administered 1,096,126 COVID vaccines to Arizonans.  In Yuma County, 28,059 residents have received the vaccine. In La Paz County, 3,581 residents have received the vaccine.    Feb. 11  The Yuma County Health District reported 24 new cases today and 5 additional deaths related to COVID-19.  It brings the total number of cases countywide to 35,907 and deaths to 750. As of 8 a.m. Thursday, there were 60 patients hospitalized at Yuma Regional Medical Center and 26 in the intensive care unit.  As of Jan. 24 the percentage of positive tests for Yuma County was at 16%.
