TODAY, THE COURT AGREED TO HEAR THE CHALLENGE FROM NO JCPS TAX HIKE. THE GROUP COLLECTED 40,000 SIGNATURES FOR A PETITION TO CHALLENGE A $0.07 TAX INCREASE ON LAST NOVEMBER’S BALLOT. Leaders of Citizens of Louisville Organized and United Together said they ve won a lot for their community, but there s more work to do after more than 1,500 members met for a virtual gathering Tuesday night.
CLOUT held its annual Nehemiah Action Assembly to address key community issues and hear from public leaders, including JCPS Superintendent Marty Pollio and Louisville Metro Council President David James.
CLOUT is made up of religious congregations working together to solve critical community problems. Its mission, according to its website, is to build the power of religious congregations to solve community problems by holding systems accountable.
Every year, the organization picks issues to tackle in the community. The religious nonprofit s campaigns this year are focused on police-community relations, affordable housing, school discipline and safety, and services for older adults.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. Kids may see an extra few days inside classrooms next year to help accelerate learning after a year of nontraditional instruction.
Jefferson County Public Schools calendar committee discussed adding four instructional days to the 2021-22 school year in a meeting Tuesday.
Extra time in school is one way Kentucky s largest district hopes to catch students up post-pandemic, Superintendent Marty Pollio previously said.
The committee weighed a few options, including adding all four days to the end of the year and sprinkling them throughout the year. Committee members expect to meet early next week to finalize their recommendation.
Any changes the committee recommends will need to be approved by the district s school board, which previously approved a 2021-22 calendar that starts Aug. 11 and ends May 26.
