Last year, there wasn t any pomp and circumstance or groups of mortarboards sailing through the air as graduation ceremonies were canceled amid the pandemic.
Most seniors walked across the stage without their classmates in private ceremonies attended by their parents and a few school administrators.
Things are looking a little better for this year s seniors as area school districts are planning to host in-person graduation ceremonies. While some still are in the planning stages, others have set the time and place for the celebration.
Whatever the plans, school officials echoed the same sentiment – seniors deserve to be able to celebrate the culmination of their academic career with their peers, family and friends.

As Stark County school districts prepare to get the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, many districts have announced plans to cancel classes or temporarily move to online learning.
Officials fear staff members could experience side effects, prompting them to call off and leave schools without the necessary staff to conduct a school day.
Massillon City Schools released its plan last week. Staff at Washington High School, the administrative office including preschool staff and transportation employees, are set to get their second dose on March 1 from the Massillon City Health Department.
Massillon students will have classes March 1 but all students will move to remote learning the rest of the week. Throughout the month, individual school buildings will move to remote learning after building staff gets their second dose.

DISCUSSION:
Superintendent Paul Salvino said the rollout of vaccines for staff members is set to begin Feb. 1.
District officials have been in ongoing conversations with the Massillon Health Department since the pandemic began and were set to meet Thursday to discuss more details on how the immunization will be administered.
A few buildings are set to get the shots Feb. 1 followed by the remaining staff members, he said. Plans call for health department staff to come to the schools to give the vaccine. The collaboration with the Massillon City Health Department has been so amazing, he said. Since March when all this jumped off there has been countless conversations with (Director) Terri (Argent) and others.
