NORMAN A push to vaccinate tens of thousands of school teachers and staff by spring break began Monday as state-scheduled vaccine appointments widely opened to Oklahoma educators for the first time.
Ten thousand Oklahomans, including 3,500 school employees, arrived for vaccinations Monday at IMMY Labs’ major distribution event in Norman.
More than 1 million residents became eligible to set vaccine appointments Sunday when the Oklahoma State Department of Health opened its scheduling portal to employees of pre-K though 12th grade schools and to Oklahomans of any age with comorbidities to COVID-19.

Twenty-four more virus-related deaths and 359 new coronavirus cases were reported in the state since Monday, according to daily numbers released by the Oklahoma State Department of Health.
A total of 420,212 Oklahomans have tested positive for COVID-19 and the total number of virus-related deaths increased to 4,227, the state health department said on Tuesday.
The seven-day rolling average for new cases reported was 776, the state health department said.
As of Friday, 681,466 total vaccine doses have been administered and 893,550 total doses have been received by the state. More than 204,000 Oklahomans have completed both inoculations.
Out of the 24 deaths reported, 16 happened since Jan. 1, the state health department said.

More than one million Oklahomans now qualify for a vaccine as the state moves to another level of Phase 2, including teachers.
As teachers in some districts get their vaccines today, many others in Tulsa are still waiting to find out when they ll get theirs. The state department of health said they re taking a very localized approach.

The state said there are more than 85,000 teachers and staff across Oklahoma who need the vaccine.
