EVANSTON, IL It s been a tough year, and while few traditions this holiday season will go on untouched by the coronavirus pandemic, here s one we can still count on seeing whether Santa Claus is en route to Evanston with a sleigh full of Christmas gifts.
It s a tried-and-true way to bring an extra spark of joy to kids this holiday season. It s also a good incentive to get the kiddos tucked in by convincing them that Rudolph s red nose is trained on your house and Santa is, in fact, on his way.
NORAD Santa Tracker Brings Some Holiday Normalcy to Even 70-Year-Olds During Pandemic

In a year that s been defined by cancellations and other disappointments, children and adults alike can find a bit of holiday normalcy by carrying on the tradition of calling the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) to find out when Santa is coming to town.
Nine months into the pandemic, the coronavirus has affected every aspect of life closing businesses, separating families and friends, and moving kids into virtual classrooms. In its 65th year, NORAD s Santa Tracker had to make adjustments to its operations, as well limiting the number of people on the team dedicated to tracking Mr. Claus. But there was never any talk about canceling the long-standing tradition.

A global pandemic can’t stop Santa Claus! The jolly old elf and his reindeer are planning their seasonal trip around the world, and you can join them on their journey as North American Aerospace Defense Command Tracks Santa at noradsanta.org.
NORAD tracks Santaâs trip from the North Pole as he travels around the world on Christmas Eve. The tracker is available in several languages and a mobile app can be downloaded for follow Santaâs flight from anywhere.
As children anxiously await Santaâs visit, the website displays a Santa Tracker Countdown and holiday music.

Volunteers answer phones during annual NORAD Tracks Santa event on Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado. NTS will have more 1,500 volunteers answering 150,000 phone calls, 2,800 emails and 3,000 on-star requests from children around the world asking where Santa is at and when he will arrive at their house.

As if Santa Claus job isn t challenging enough, this Christmas St. Nick has the added pressure of bringing joy to the world s children during a time in which joy is sorely lacking due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Perhaps not since the year Rudolph went down in history as saving the day during a huge storm has Santa s mission been more crucial.
