SUNGAI BESAR, Feb 22: The Education Ministry (MOE) will give priority to teachers in the high-risk group for the COVID-19 vaccine if the request for them to be included in the first phase of the Covid-19 vaccination programme starting Wednesday, is approved.
Deputy Education Minister 1 Muslimin Yahaya said the MOE was in discussions with the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry (MOSTI) for teachers to also be given the vaccine in the first phase of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme seeing that schools will be opening next month.
It was initially scheduled to roll out on Friday.
Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, who gave the latest update, said Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin would set the ball rolling by being the first to be vaccinated at Klinik Kesihatan Putrajaya after chairing the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
Next would be Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, he added.
“We can begin making early preparations to start the immunisation programme following the arrival of the vaccine.
“The decision is to bring forward the start of the programme, ” he told a press conference at Kuala Lumpur International Airport following the arrival of the first batch of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines yesterday.

The conspiracies were so widespread that even Science, Technology & Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin had to voice out against them.
Replying to one such social media anti-vax post, Khairy plainly stated that the vaccine is not
dajjal and that OneWorld is the name of an airline alliance.

As the minister pointed out, OneWorld is in fact a global airlines alliance that currently consists of 13 carriers including American Airlines, British Airways, Japan Airlines, Qatar Airways and Malaysia Airlines – which has actually been a full member of OneWorld since 2013.
Glove bulls seem to be getting lethargic as more countries kick-start their Covid-19 vaccination programmes. Malaysia will soon be the latest one, which will begin on coming Wednesday.
