The Government of Saskatchewan is committing to a multi-year, $2.2 million investment in eleven Saskatchewan innovators through the Saskatchewan Advantage Innovation Fund (SAIF) and Agtech Growth Fund (AGF). SAIF supports commercialization of game-changing technological innovations in the province s core economic sectors, while AGF operates in parallel as a research and development (R&D) funding program designed to accelerate the commercialization of game-changing technological innovations in the province s agricultural sector. Investment in these two programs supports addressing specific industry challenges through the development of cutting-edge technologies, Minister Responsible for Innovation Saskatchewan Jeremy Harrison said. Focusing resources into areas of our province s natural economic strengths will grow the province s tech sector and drive our economy forward.
We are very excited to be announcing our continued support of the Founders Table program, Minister Responsible for Innovation Saskatchewan Jeremy Harrison said in the release. Building a tech ecosystem conducive for women to scale their companies is critical to the ongoing growth of Saskatchewan s tech sector and our Government s Growth Plan - in which we aim to triple the tech sector over the next ten years. Juanita Polegi, Executive Director with the Yorkton Chamber of Commerce told Yoirkton This Week the announcement is a positive one. “The Yorkton Chamber looks forward to promoting to its members information about the application process for Founders’ Table,” she said.
USask has been a key sponsor of Co.Labs since the incubator’s inception in 2018. Under the agreement, the university will provide an annual investment of $60,000 for three years. This is an increase from the current support of $30,000 per year in support of Co.Launch a 12-week program in which founders learn startup fundamentals and compete for funding and a full-time spot at Co.Labs. The new MOU was announced by USask President Peter Stoicheff at the virtual Co.Launch pitch event held Thursday. “Our relationship with Co.Labs exemplifies the vision outlined in our University Plan 2025, and is an excellent example of the meaningful impact we have within our community and how we are prepared to be the university the world needs,” said Stoicheff. “We both have a common mission to generate ideas, and support them to find success out in the world, and we are proud to partner with Co.Labs on this important work.”
