The McGillicuddy fellowship showcase: An annual opportunity for enlightenment – The Maine Campus

April 26, 2021 Michael Socolow, director of the Clement and Linda McGillicuddy Humanities Center, and Karen Sieber, a humanities specialist at the center, were excited to introduce this year’s four McGillicuddy’s students. While their research differed in topics, students Hailey Cedor, Nola Prevost, Nolan Altvater and Katherine Reardon all had the same idea of sharing the truth in mind.   The truths that these four students have spent the past year chasing range from the retelling of family history to reparations for the Holocaust from the influence of men in fairytales to the treatment of Wabanaki people both in the past and present.

Stories We Tell: Sarah Polley s confessional, compelling doco comes to Māori TV

Through conversations with her family and her parents’ friends and fellow actors, she learns how they met, how different they really were and how she came so close to not existing at all (pregnant at age 42, Dianne was worried about complications and was on her way to the abortion clinic when she changed her mind), as well as one revelation that will truly change her life. While this makes it sound like a big-screen version of an episode of the BBC series Who Do You Think You Are, Stories We Tell has an intimacy and endearingly shoddy production values the Beeb would never allow. Sound booms are deliberately left in shot, Polley records conversations on an 8mm camera before and in-between the more formal set-ups and she and her brothers and sisters regularly take the mickey out of one another (apparently the young Sarah thought her mother was Lucielle Ball), leavening what could have been a maudlin, navel-gazing project.

These 36 movies earned rare 5-star ratings. Here s why and where you can watch them Bill Goodykoontz, Arizona Republic The Arizona Republic doesn t hand out a lot of five-star reviews. That s as it should be. It s a rating reserved for only the best movies. Not perfect films once you get past Citizen Kane, perfect is a pretty tough, if not impossible, standard to meet. But some movies come awfully close, and those are the ones that we recognize here. Our rating system says five stars means great. While that s accurate, it only scratches the surface of why these are the few movies that stand above the rest. Whether comedy or drama or some combination of the two, these are movies will not disappoint.
