With only a few days to go, he was still a bit short of his goal. But no worries, as one Lafayette 7th grader turned up his efforts to provide assistance for Lafayette s homeless population.
Socks, socks, and more socks, collected by Our Lady of Fatima 7th grader Ben Vaussine. When last week s Spirit of Acadiana aired, he had rounded up about 500 pairs of socks.
And then we move to this week. Today, Tuesday, Ben s final tally is..1,062.
And how? How did Ben ramp up his sock collection in only a few days? Well, the credit would be to people like you - folks who heard Ben s message and wanted to help.

AUSTIN, Texas - The Salvation Army of Austin has been selected to receive a $2.5 million grant from Amazon founder Jeff Bezos Day 1 Families Fund.
The fund, launched in 2018, is granting $105.9 million this year to 42 nonprofits across the U.S. helping families gain housing support and stability. The Salvation Army of Austin is the only one in Texas to receive the third annual grant.

LAFAYETTE, La. - Catholic Charities of Acadiana, a faith-based social services organization based in Lafayette announced Wednesday that it has been selected to receive a $5 million grant from the Day 1 Families Fund. Launched in 2018 by Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos, the Day 1 Families Fund issues annual leadership awards to organizations and civic groups doing compassionate, needle-moving work to provide shelter and hunger support to address the immediate needs of young families.
