VATICAN CITY (RNS) As some American bishops discuss the possibility of denying Communion to Catholic politicians such as President Joe Biden for supporting abortion-rights policies, a senior Vatican prelate said decisions about administering the sacrament rest solely on the bishop giving the Eucharist.
“It’s not up to bishops in general to make these decisions, it’s the bishop of the person,” said Cardinal Michael Czerny, the undersecretary of the Migrants and Refugees Section of the Vatican’s Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, in an interview with Religion News Service on Thursday (May 6).

Pro-life activists are successfully getting life-saving legislation on the books, even in states that have not been friendly to the movement.
According to LifeNews.com, the Guttmacher Institute, an arm of the abortion industry, has issued a policy analysis of state laws that restrict abortion. It indicates a record year for passage of pro-life laws so far.
Dr. Michael New, a research associate at The Catholic University of America and associate scholar at the Charlotte Lozier Institute, tells One News Now 61 state laws have already been passed, with 13 states having passed at least one. Eight have passed gestational age limits.

The new superintendent, who will be chosen and appointed by the school’s Board of Education, will replace Roger Catania, who is retiring at the end of this school year. Catania has been Lake Placid Central School District’s superintendent since 2013, though he worked at the high school as a counselor for several years before that, starting in 1997. The three candidates who are being considered as his replacement are Timothy Seymour, the current superintendent of the St. Regis Falls Central School District; Saranac Laker Dana Wood, former principal of the Lake Placid Middle-High School and current assistant superintendent for business, finance and support services at LPCSD; and Margaret Wright, a Canandaigua resident who has served in various administrative roles in school districts throughout the Finger Lakes region.
