As soon as news broke last month that Jeremy Lin was signing with the Santa Cruz Warriors, I knew I wanted to do a story on what went into his decision to turn down seven-figure contracts in China to play in the G League.
It wasn’t until that article became one of my most read pieces in my six years at The Chronicle, however, that I realized just how big the interest level still is for Lin. Whether in the NBA, the Chinese Basketball Association or the G League, he attracts a global audience.

In basketball it’s half the game, and the more proficient practitioners Virginia, remember, is the “defending” NCAA champion tend to prevail. This said, defense can be imperfect in the sense that the best laid schemes “gang aft agley” … or as we’ve seen with Illinois basketball, backfire!
