01 – U.S. President Donald Trump declared himself “the president of law and order” amid ongoing racial unrest across the country. Trump threatened to deploy the military to American cities if state governors and the National Guard couldn’t quell the violent demonstrations. Even as Trump spoke in the White House Rose Garden, loud tear gas explosions could be heard as military and law enforcement moved peaceful protesters in nearby Lafayette Park. Following his speech, police used tear gas to clear protesters before Trump made a quick trip to the nearby St. John’s Church for a photo-op.

If you’re reading this, you made it. You survived 2020. Gold stars for all.
This year was, by most measures, the strangest, darkest timeline. A global pandemic upended our lives and rendered them unrecognizable. COVID-19 took away people’s lives and livelihoods.
And let us not forget that this was also the year that Election Day turned into Election Month in the United States; Prince Harry quit the royal family; Kobe Bryant, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Chadwick Boseman and Eddie Van Halen died; and the heartbreaking photos of bewildered, bandaged koalas and terrifying orange skies out of Australia, which was on fire, became something of a harbinger of all to come.

The province remains under code red restrictions on Christmas Day, meaning people must only gather with household members and keep outdoor groups to a maximum of five people. While Boxing Day sales will go ahead, the ban on selling non-essential items will still be in effect Saturday.
