James Bogusz, president and CEO of the Regina Airport Authority (RAA), said the study was to be concluded months from now in the spring. So Bogusz said the RAA was caught off guard when Unifor, the union representing all air traffic controllers in Canada, sent a news release on Thursday warning about the risks of laying off 100 air traffic controllers. Workers were issued layoff notices at air traffic control towers in St-Jean, Que., Windsor, Sault Ste. Marie, Regina, Fort McMurray, Prince George and Whitehorse, according to the union.

The town s air traffic controllers made history for safely landing a large number of planes in the wake of the attacks.(CBC) Nav Canada plans to lay off 180 people across the country, employees were told on Wednesday, as the pandemic and travel restrictions continue to cripple the airline industry. This latest round of cuts includes air traffic controllers who co-ordinate the movement of planes in between airports to make sure they are properly separated in the air.  One of the area control centres affected is one of the main employers in Gander, N.L., where generations of families worked together and played a role in history.
