Special Focus: 2021 Forecast & Review – Canadian E&P /// The oil and gas business had an exceedingly difficult time in 2020. There are signs that activity may be improving, but it’s hard to compare against a year that felt like rock bottom, and to forecast in the shadow of a pandemic.

Special Focus: 2021 Forecast & Review – International Drilling & Production /// Following a tumultuous 2020, global drilling rates outside the U.S. are a bit of a mixed bag for 2021. Lingering economic effects from shutdowns and travel restrictions are impeding recovery in regions like Africa and Eastern Europe, while Western Europe and South America are finding their stride.

(Rene Johnston/Toronto Star) The Lead  A Reuters survey has found that the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries’s (OPEC) oil output fell to 24.89 million barrels per day (bdp) in February. This value was down 870,000 bpd from January, reflecting the first monthly decline since June 2020. “So far, the members of the alliance have been cooperating and implementing the cuts in exemplary fashion,” said analyst Eugen Weinberg at Commerzbank. “We believe that the high prices will prompt OPEC+ to step up its production by 500,000 barrels per day, while at the same time withdrawing Saudi Arabia’s additional production cut.”
