Ontario pulled the “emergency brake” Thursday, placing the entire province into a four-week partial shutdown beginning Saturday amid a worsening pandemic. The move was immediately met with questions about whether it goes far enough to prevent significantly more illness, death and strain on the struggling health system from COVID-19.

Got vaccinated, still got COVID-19 â it does sound like a pandemic punchline, an April Foolsâ joke built for our times.
Alas, it is just so, as evidenced by an alarming story from our Elizabeth Payne in our Wednesday editions. A number of frontline health workers at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute became infected with the virus, and this after being vaccinated with a first dose of the best stuff we have.
