As a federal advisory committee meets Wednesday to sign off on allowing one vaccine to go into adolescent arms, the White House reportedly said on a call that states won’t receive any doses of another next week.
White House officials told governors on a private call Tuesday that new supply of the Johnson & Johnson one-dose shot wasn t immediately available for ordering, Politico reported, citing four sources it did not name. The vaccine output has been limited since its authorization in late February and in April, federal health officials paused its use for 11 days after a rare blood-clotting disorder was associated with the shot.

But the Food and Drug Administration has granted emergency use authorization to the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for children 12-15, and a few cities offered shots less than 24 hours later. Most, however, are waiting for a federal advisory committee that meets Wednesday to sign off on the move.

OTTAWA – Britain’s trade minister says his country expects to kick-start talks on a free-trade pact with Canada in the fall and suggests it might differ in scope from what is now in place.
Ranil Jayawardena says first the British government must hold consultations on what should be in an agreement before it can sit down with Canadian negotiators on the terms of a long-term deal.

Officials trying to read between the lines of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s announcement on May 11 appear to be all on one side, and that side is light rail.
Trudeau said the government would provide $12 billion to transit in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton area. After the announcement, Federal Minister of Infrastructure and Communities Catherine McKenna believed most of the money would be invested in light-rail projects over bus rapid transit, even though Trudeau was not specific. McKenna added that $10.7 billion would go toward four priority subway projects in the Greater Toronto area, and additional funding is slated for Hamilton.
